Now when planning your trip to Haleakala do know it can get cold even here in Hawaii! We reccomend bringing a jacket, pants closed toed shoes, and even some thermals if you got them, You can always take layers off. The wind chill is the thing that gets you!

Sometimes in the summer it can be pretty warm, and you can go hiking in board shorts and flip flops.

(shown Below the wind)

The drive time from (Lahaina - West Maui is about 2 hours and 20 minutes with no stops) it is only 60 miles more or less the drive up to the top is one to really see, the ecosystem changes soo much so quickly from low grass lands and sugar cane to dense forest and then into something that looks like the surface of the moon!

(shown below ecosystem on road to Haleakala Crater) (Upcountry Maui)

Many people say the sunrise of Haleakala is amazing, which it truely is but if waking up at 2am does not sound like the kind of vacation you are looking for do the sunset it is equally as magical!

(Shown Below you can see both into the crater and upcountry maui/Kahului on both sides)

When going to Haleakala make a day trip out of it, you are already going through upcountry maui so be surf to stop in Makawao a small cowboy town in Upcountry Maui, Stop and grab some lunch here there is many great places to eat at in this cute little town.

After your trip to Haleakala and Upcountry Maui. Stop by a nice waterfall at Twin falls or go to the Bamboo forest located at 6300 Hana Hwy, Haiku, HI 96708. For a quick dip in the tropical waterfalls is a nice change from the top of the chilly

volcano!
